While I was at Halfords the manager said he's got a 'flash' deal on this bike at £449 (£400 by using a discount code) usual price is £649 (though £539 on their website) and although said it was for today only, said he'd let me buy it tomorrow at the same price if I wanted it.

What do you think? Better/worse than the VooDoo Bizango?

I would take it over the Bizango at that price, The old Bizango is nice though. It comes down to wheel size do you want big wheels?

Both very good bikes, probably about evens between them, so if the Boardman is cheaper, I'd take that.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

After looking at the Bizango, I don't think I want big wheels - the Bizango (and Aizen) just felt too big (looked at Bizango 20" and Aizen 18"). The 18" 650bs just felt 'nicer' - but what do I know, this is my first proper MB. The manager also said he preferred the 650bs as he felt they give you better control.

What I really like about the Boardman - is weight - it's just 12.8KG (old Bizango is over 14kg) also the frame is stronger being triple butted and has smooth wields.

Butted makes for a lighter frame, not stronger, the weight saving could well be pretty much all in the wheels.

Ah right thanks. The manager said it had a stronger frame and I just took it as gospel

Yeah, the tires don't look as good.. however it's the reviews I am worried about http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/mountain-bikes/boardman-mountain-bike-comp-ht-650b

Should I take these with a pinch of salt?

Argh I was wrong about the Boardman, it's actually up for £499 as a flash deal but ends up at £459 with the discount (I just called him to check).

He did however say he can do the Boardman Team for £630 (rrp is £849) - but that's way more than I want to spend.

Team not really worth the extra over the comp.
