Cannondale Synapse sizing

Hello,
I'm looking at purchasing a Synapse frameset to build up. I currently ride an s-works sl4 in a 56 with a 120 stem. Looking at the geo the head tube on the synapse is quite a bit longer (18.6cm) compared to 17cm. Therefore I thought about maybe sizing down to get a 54cm frame with a 16.6cm head tube and using a 140 stem to make up for the top tube. Would this work okay or would it comprise handling etc?
