Cost of silver v black spokes (Sapim)

Silver spokes appear to be much cheaper than black spokes - in terms of the Sapim variety. Apart from Aesthetics - assuming most people prefer black is there any advantage to the black spokes? I can only think the coating protects the spokes from corrosion, but then it also seems possible the coating affects the spoke chemically which weakens the spoke.

    I assume it's purely looks.

    But to make them black requires extra manufacturing steps; hence the higher price.

    No difference materially, purely cosmetic - probably lots of spokes get rejected in manufacture due to poor finish which accounts for the higher price.
    Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
