As the title says, considering having a single up front for a build but dont fancy a full blown SS. Will this combination work ok together?

Thanks for any help.

If you mean a 10sp REAR derailleur and shifter - yes, why wouldn't it?

The Force rear derailleur isn't a clutch mech so you should run a chain guide on the front. Having said that plenty people don't and don't have issues.

This was going to be a follow up question. With the SRAM narrow wide rings is it still best to run a catcher in peoples experience?
  • I ran a normal 11 speed force rear mech with the CX1 chainring on the front last winter and had no problems. The chain never came off but I was riding mainly road. It's debatable if you really need the clutch rear mech.

The only problem I had was chain stretch as a single chainring seemed to kill the sram chains in around 1000 miles. Not sure if this is sram specific but I've gone back to a double chainring now. A single chainring would make sense for a lot of people though.
