Orange Alpine Five 2015

My brother had his status nicked, insurance offered £2050 so I set about finding him a bargain.
Settled on a large neon orange Alpine Five for £2087 courtesy of sunsetmtb cardiff, with Pike 150mm rct3, factory kashima shock, tubeless conversion with 2.3 minion 3c exo tr front high roller ii 3c 2.3 exo tr rear, race face bars and stem, guide brakes, slx rear mech, sdg saddle, race face seat post. Will put full spec list up tomorrow but he got a great deal there.

Did it arrive mail order or did you pick it up?
Im seriously considering picking up a sale 2015 Alpine 160AM from them but never bought a bike mail order before.

I bought my 2014 alpine from them mail order and they are brilliant great service and very helpful, any issues I've had have been sorted immediately warranty etc. Second bike arrived the same as the first, next year I'll be getting another for myself from them so I'd definitely recommend them. PS make sure you use the save 10 code for extra 10% discount, if you do go for it.

What's an Alpine Five? I thought the Alpine and Five were two separate models.

It was called the five.29er but they rebranded it the alpine five.

Five 29er made sense. It's a 29er Five. It's not an Alpine.
Will the 29er Alpine be called the Alpine 324?

I believe it was called the Alpine Five because it was intended to sit somewhere between the Five and the Alpine... Pretty obvious really.

Not at all, it's ridiculous. It would make sense if the alpine was a 29er. The bike is a five, has no extra characteristics of the alpine, yet shares the name?

It's a Five, designed for hitting bigger stuff and riding in the alps... Hence the name... Though I guess Orange have decided that it was too complicated for some people, as they seem to have dropped it.

Why not call it an Alpine 29 if that's the case? It has the same travel front and rear as the regular Five, so where's the difference?

Who knew Orange's ability to divide opinion on their bikes could so easily be extended to the names as well.

That said. Its a stupid name and tells you nothing about the bike Five AM 29er seems infinitely more descriptive. No wonder it was cheap.

Looks like they have done away with 29ers altogether now. And anything described as AM.

Oddly they have an Alpine 160 - its the only bike in the Alpine range so why does it need 160 after its name? Surely Alpine would cover it?

Historical name innit. Goes back to when it replaced the Patriot which had its suspension travel in the name.

It's not keeping me awake at night, it just seems dumb. I'm sure this is a nice bike OP, might well be worth something in a few years if they didn't sell many...
