My wife's Spesh Dolce has a Tiagra 9spd derailleur that has seen better days. I can't seem to source a Tiagra replacement bu Sora 3500 is available. She is running a 12-25 cassette with a triple ring up front. Will the Sra fir and do I need short or medium cage?

the 9 speed sora will be fine. so would any shimano 10 speed one if you want a better quality (105 or ultegra for example). shimano 11 speed is different pull ratio so avoid those.

i'd go medium cage since you have the triple chainset

Yes the Sora 9 speed RD will be fine with your Tiagra shifters.

I'd err on the safe side and get a medium cage. With a max 25 sprocket at the rear you may just get away with a short cage married to the triple crankset. However it would leave you no wriggle room if you decided to move to a larger max sprocket at the rear (say 28 or 30) where a medium cage would certainly be required,

My 105 triple (5603) only had a 12-25 cassette but Epic fitted a medium cage rear mech because of the triple crankset.

ETA: and when I had to replace the rear mech I went for the 5700 equivalent since I felt it was the sweet spot in terms of price vs quality.
