Shall I buy one ? Simple as that : ) Ultegra rim brake version @ 1699 this month ... Or Dura Ace @ 2499 in November .. How on earth can they expect me to wait until November. The disc one looks so much more pimp too in that yellow colour ???

If weights are important it may be worth looking at this web page:
    http://www.bikerumor.com/2015/07/09/2016-cannondale-supersix-evo-caad12-road-bike-lineup-actual-weights/

Its a choice between the lighter (7.49kg) Ultegra rim version ideal for climbing, or the (8.17kg) Dura-ace disc ideal for descending. :?

Agree, the Disc dura ace does look great in yellow 8)

Or....buy a discounted CAAD 10 105 for £800, sell the wheels and 105 then replace with Ultegra and blingy wheels and have some cash left over.
  • Pretty much just sold my matt black Caad10 : ( Best bike I've had. I'm leaning towards that yellow disc dura ace version ... Just ... Can't ..Wait ....... Shame the red ultegra rim brake version isn't as cool as that yellow one !!

Just wait, otherwise you will regret it when November comes.
  • If you're not too worried about the colour of the frame, would it work out cheaper to buy the 105 version and DA mechanical separately? Or even buy the Ultegra one, sell the virtually new groupset and then buy DA?

I'm going to to that with one of the bikes I'm looking at as the difference in price between the bikes is actually more than the cost of the parts themselves so works out a shade cheaper to buy the 105 version and buy an Ultegra groupset seperately. And then you've saved a few quid and have an extra groupset :)

I really like the Dura Ace Disc build, but the geometries is a bit too aggressive for me... I need a frame with STR 1.48-1.52...

  • Sorry for the thread bump.

I'm really liking the look of the DA CAAD12, especially in that colour, but to what extent is DA used?

From looking at the spec, the casette is Ultegra, the crankset is Cannondale, shifters are hydraulic Shimano's used on most Ultregra spec'd disc bikes and the same again for the brakes.

Wheels aside, is the only real difference between the DA and Ultegra version, the front and rear mech? Seems a large increase in price if so.
  • This Yellow CAAD12 .... SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY :P
I really need that color with the 105 groupset.

I'm seriously considering swapping my EvoSix for one with mechanical Ultegra and rim brakes...
Not sure about the red though - why can't I get the black paint job that Germany gets??
Maybe I need to import one...
  • Just an update. Obviously I was tooooo impatient to wait for the Yellow disc Dura Ace one so I got the 'red' (more like orange actually) Ultegra rim brake version. To be fair it is PIMP. Should probably get a shite bike for the winter but I just like riding half tidy one's. Should've kept the Caddy 10 though as well really. Hindsight heh !!

Things I've noticed after riding (and loving) the 10. Possibly a bit smoother over the ruff stuff. I don't generally buy into all the marketing bumf but they may sort of be telling the truth about the 12. I've already ridden the bike quite a bit (think I've had it around a month), and did a dece 80odd miler on Saturday plus a 40 on Sunday just gone. It seems to soak up the vibrations a bit better (don't know if the 25.4 post has anything to do with it ...), think the seat and chain stays also have a slightly different design ?? Has the SAVE like the EVO's I think.

Climbing wise it feels as good as the 10 I'd say, and for acceleration out of the saddle also similar. Managed to PB on a relatively long (for UK) hill, at around 4.5km on Saturday on it but that may have had something to do with riding Stelvio in Italy about three times in a week the week before. The hill seemed short lol. Descending wise I've yet to take it to the limit. I'm a bit of a puss when it comes to going bonkers on the descents anyway and as soon as I see I'm hitting 40mph or over I'm a bit of a girl ... Seems pretty good though and rival's the 10 I'd say but wonder if the 10 either had a slight slight edge on the downslopes, or that I've just not ridden the 12 down enough hills yet. I didn't take it to Italy BTW.

Probably rambling here but if anyone want's any more specific feedback I'd be happy to help.

Also, if anyone's selling a System Six in 54cm I'm interested. Gotta love a Cannondale.

Well it sure won't make any difference to you. Quote: "So my goals for over the winter period are to lose some of my flab and improve my base fitness to a level where I can sustain an average speed of 15mph over a longer distance. This allows me to do the group rides with the local club"

I suggested that the weight difference between the disc and non disc version wasn't going to make a noticeable difference to climbing. He decided to make up some sort of quote about me being fat for some bizarre reason.

But anyway - that's a really nice bike, nice work (not sure if I'd prefer a Kinesis though ;) )
  • Funny you say that as I was going to buy one but had a great opportunity to borrow one for a week first. Rode a Kinesis Aithein (53cm size I think) for a weekend for 220km. Very nice bike as it happens. Nice and racy but beforehand I didn't realise the tube profiles were quite thin (by this I mean circumference etc). Also, it scared me a bit on the downslopes so I sacked it off. Then again I've seen the guy I borrowed it from hit speeds of 80kmh on it but he races it and must have bigger balls than me. Tidy bike tho.

I guess STR is something related to stack and reach. Exactly what or am I barking up the wrong tree?
  • Stack/Reach ratio, I think.

Whilst I'm totally convinced of the case for Disc brakes in terms of braking power, I'm not convinced that we've yet reached a maturity in the technology for road bikes, meaning that there's 350,000 different combinations of axle diameter, rear wheel spacing and brake mounts. Until that settles down, I'm reluctant to move over.

Of course, the next time I have a buttock clenching moment whilst using rim brakes on my road bike, I may change my mind...

It's just a hill. Get over it.
  • I bought a black CAAD10 in the spring and built it up with Mavic Ksyrium wheels and an Ultegra groupset. So very, very, happy with it. Only minor negative is the lack of internal cable routing (which is a feature on the 12), which I notice when it goes on the roof of the car.
