105 5800 Front Mech Niggles

I've just built up a new bike and am generally very impressed with the 5800 Groupset. The only little niggle I have is the front mech.
I'm getting chain rub on about the 6th cog (from the smallest), which is only halfway up the cassette. The limit screw is set very close to the chain when it's on the 11t cog, so I can't move the cage further in without compromising the smaller cogs. I'm not sure if it's the bike (a Van Nicholas Yukon audax type frame - there does seem to be more of an angle on the chain compared to my other bike).
It's a braze on mech, clamped to a band on adapter clamp. Anything I should do with the angle of it or something? I was always under the impression it should be parallel to the chainrings.
ANy help would be much appreciated.

Are you aware of/using the trim facility?0

Did you use the little Shimano tool to set the derailleur and have you ensured the cable guide is inserted the correct way for the cable feed?
http://velonews.competitor.com/2015/03/bikes-and-tech/technical-faq/technical-faq-shimano-11-speed-front-derailleur-cable-setup_363733I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -

Er, no.
I hadn't realised the new 11 speed had a different set up procedure. First time using 11 speed, though I have installed the 5800 front derailleur before with older shifters... Obviously, they didn't have the trim facility.

I didn't realise there was a shimano tool? I will study your link closely tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
I was surprised there were no instructions supplied (the "user manual" is actually just a warning leaflet), I thought it can't be that different. But obviously not...http://www.KOWONO.com - Design-Led home furniture and accessories.0 -

Err...the 5800. 6800 and 9000 series of Shimano front derailleurs have a very different pull ratio compared to the older models. They will only work correctly with 11speed Shimano shifters.
As for the trim function, this have been a feature of older Shimano groupsets too!0 -

Help much appreciated.
I've just had a tea break and spent it setting it up with the arts cyclery video. Works a treat now.
My only thing now is that I had to turn the barrel adjuster quite a bit to stop the chain rubbing on the lowest gear (small cog, big chainring). Leaving me little adjustment for the future (without going through the full setup process again).http://www.KOWONO.com - Design-Led home furniture and accessories.0 -
Sounds about right. I've noticed that too. Never found it to be a problem. If it does loosen over time just tighten it back to where it was.
Next time you do the set up from scratch ,try to pull the cable abit tighter when clamping it.0 -

My 8 year old 105 and second hand 9 speed Tiagra both have trim functions.
Worth reading the relevant Shimano tech doc because they don't all work in the same way.0 -
Whilst the trim function has been on older models I find it is much more noticeable on 6800 (i assume it is similar for 5800)www.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0
