Carbon bars - scuffed. But damaged?

Hello.

Firstly, I'll be clear that I'm annoyed with myself for this and that I think I know the answer already...

Anyway, I borrowed my mate's Garmin 800 to do the Coast to Coast this weekend just gone. He lent me his K Edge mount, which 'clamps' onto the bars. I covered the bars in insulation tape and just nipped up the tiny Allen bolts so as not to exert too much force on the bars.

The whole thing started rattling loose after 2miles. So I just nipped up the bolts to stop that happening. The mount has scuffed the bars, but I'm worried - I think unnecessarily - that I might have damaged them. Photos below and I'd appreciate pointers.

Cheers
Ben

PS. yes the front end is dusty - I haven't had a chance to clean the bike yet
PPS. yes the mechanic had trouble fitting the cables and gnarled one of them - I got money off

No worries - if you sawed the bars in half and saw how much material there is you'd be less concerned! A light rub with some wet and dry to smooth off any rough edges and a spot of some clear nail varnish to give it a protective coating.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Thanks mate. That accords with my instincts - the clamp posed nothing like the force that the stem does - it's just moved about and scratched off the paint.

    (I won't bother sawing in half :) )

Scratches and scuffs on clear lacquer usually looks worse than they are; the rough area refracts the light and makes it look white so it stands out.

If you got a bit of carbon gripper paste and just rubbed it over the scuffed area, then wiped it off... I bet the scuff would be almost invisible.
