How come brad rode a cervélo and cav was on a unmarked black bike?

BC now being sponsored by Cervelo not Pina - tho Brad's team ride Pinas, he was riding all weekend for GB

Think Cav was probably riding a UK Sports special - perhaps to avoid any issues with Spesh

The 'best' GB riders still get the UK SI bikes. Brad rode his in the TP. Cav rode the UK SI bike throughout. I suspect Brad's UK SI bike was setup for pursuit and not for all-around riding. (Or he wasn't as comfortable on it for a bunch event). But as Cav was riding the Omnium, he had no probs using it for the different types of events.

I assume he's doing London given the pre-puiblicity?

looked like DePauw and DeKetele were struggling to hold Wiggo's wheel and they aren't exactly shabby Madison riders

Me and the missus were there and witnessed that. Given Brad was fresh after a couple of days off, it was still truly breathtaking to watch him open up that diesel of his. I have to say that Cav looked like he had never been away coming second to legend Ed Clancy. Cav certainly has his work cut out to make the Rio squad as I believe there is only one shout up for the Omnium, but are Brad and Cav going for the Rio Mad as well?

It was a terrific weekend, the Travel Lodge is very handy for the venue with parking (useful when the Rams are at home) and everyone made us welcome.

The Saturday afternoon crowd was a little mute but Hugh hadn't reached the full cry he attained in later sessions. The atmosphere was also a little down as the hospitality (i.e the opposite side of the arena) was not open. Given how quickly this whole event sold, I think they missed a trick in just selling these seats off but I guess there was some sound commercial reason behind the decision.

I would love to know where the Revolution idea came from, I think someone told me Fran Millar was originally involved in it. With this and now the London 6 day in Oct, it seems to me that the track is experiencing a significant spectator renaissance, long may it continue.

Back on topic, from their website
"TV coverage of the 2015-16 Revolution Series will begin from Round 2 on 24th October to coincide with the start of the Elite Championship and HOY Future Stars. This weekend's special event in Derby will not be televised but there will be selected race highlights clips, including highlights of the Madison available on our YouTube channel next week."

  • Madison was dropped from the Olympic track programme before London - as was IP - dont get me started...

So no Madison in Rio... BUT Brad wants Cav to do Madison with him at next year's Worlds in London. And I reckon they'll be one at one of the World Cups (Cali in Oct or HK in Jan, most likely).

But it all hinges on what Cav sorts out with his new contract and road commitments for next year

I can't believe I had forgotten that - lord knows what metric they use to decide the programme. Actually I seem to remember the UCI were supposed to have had some influence under the old err.. guard, perhaps Brian Cookson will fair better.

Still at least the Worlds will be fun.

It was caused by UCI being a "tier 2" organisation (or whatever the term is) in terms of its offiliation with the IOC. It was only allowed to increase its female track events by reducing the mens - there were only 4 women's events in the track programme in 2004 with the men having 8. I seem to recall that adding women's and men's BMX was the reason for the original loss of the kilo and women's 500m TT.

This is in contrast to say athletics who could for example introduce a new event into their programme without dropping another if they so choose - they are higher in the IOC pecking order.

I never had too much love for the Madison but the loss of the Kilo and then the IP is shocking. Both are absolute pure sport at its finest and really separate the best from the rest.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.
  • and meanwhile the swimming programme starts the morning after the Opening Ceremony and doesn't stop until everyone in the swimming arena has won a medal, including the pool cleaners

In fairness, when the national medal count matters is the only time anyone gives a sh!t about swimming.

Runners at least get some vague interest every year at the worlds.

The annoying part for me is that the omnium was one of the events added as part of the shakeup, so many of the events that were cut are still included, just with non specialists riding them.
