Fox 36 or Pike?

But it's nearly £300 for the Avalanche cartridge. Add that to a basic Fox 34 (I'm not buying used) and it's getting close to the price of a Fox 36 Fit 4 RC2 and more than a Pike RCT3Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

I'd be interested in the 34 if it performs close to the 36. Otherwise Pike is always the safe option.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -
Can't find a 140mm 27.5" Pike under £700 at the moment. Due to Rockshox stupid design, dropping travel isn't as simple as dropping in a spacer. Instead the air shafts needs changing.
I think the X Fusion Sweep Roughcut looks like the best way to go. Under £300 for a fork which is as light as the Pike, has decent adjustment and according to reviews it's near enough as stiff as the Pike and this year it has one of them damper bladder jobbiesTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Not a big job changing the shaft though, not much more than servicing the lowers0 -

go for a mattoc
Nope. I rode one in France recently, to be honest I didn't like it and neither did the owner. When set up to get it working under harsh conditions it sat really low in its travel and made the front end feel a bit twitchy. It also felt rather flexy.
The air shaft change on the Pike isn't a huge job but it adds another £35.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
The guys at Bird use X Fusion a fair bit and find them to be pretty good. They just need a bit more bedding in time compared to other forks. If I end up doing another winter Hardtail build I would use an X Fusion fork.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0

I regret not going for a pike when CRC had the RCT3 for under £480 the other month, got the luxury of being able to wait till they the drop the price of the 2016 model though unlike yourself0

Take the airshaft to a machine shop and they can easily chop it and tap it for shorter travel. Its a £10 job.0 -
I have just found a 2016 Pike solo air RCT3 27.5" 150mm for just under £600. Just need to decide whether it's going to be £200 better than the X Fusion.
I'm thinking 150mm travel should be fine on my bike. It's 140mm as standard.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
150 is fine according to my "local" tranny dealer0

Should have had my 150mm Pike from my Hardtail for £400 with around 250 miles on it.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0
