Gifted an old mountain bike

Today my boss kindly gifted me his old mountain bike he's had in storage for the last few years. A Saracan Mantra 1 2007. The reason that he gave me his old bike was because last week my Carrera Kraken was stolen. Does this frame have the potential to be a decent ride over cross country and light trails if some good components are added? The existing forks are RST GILA PLUS T7 which I think have a travel of 120mm? Also the frame is a medium which is the correct size for me too, and has disc brakes.

First thing to do is ride it as it is and see if you get on with it. No point upgrading stuff if the geometry is all wrong for you.

Bit heavy, and the forks are not up to much, but BR liked it
