Hi all, first post here
iv been mountain biking now for a year and I'm looking for some info on a bike iv recently got.
its a Marin rift zone which I believe was made between 2007 and 2009.
my question is, how do I find out what year my one is ??
and help would be great

Looks like about 2007, but you can check different year specs here

Great bikes, although if the saddle is the right height for you, the bike is way too big.I don't do smileys.

no the saddles down from when I had it in the car.
I cant seem to find a lot on these bikes.

Designed by Jon Whyte (of Whyte bikes) - check out the similarities. Very capable, tough, not very light but great to ride. Will handle pretty much anything.I don't do smileys.

ok so its worth keeping hold of then as I picked it up quite cheap ?
I had the suspension serviced 2 months ago and they said the bikes had very little use.
I thought it looked like some of the orange bikes and may have had some input from them
it performs well but can be tough climbing on it at times0 -

That was probably Marin's best period before Whyte took back the rights for them to use his suspension design, as CD says they are very capable bikes and while the frame is not the lightest, it's not the heaviest either and they do last well. Unless you really feel it's not doing something you want it to do, it's well worth keeping hold of in my opinion.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Iv looked at the link and from what I can see they only done the dark blue in 20070 -

I only payed £350 for it from a family friend who needed cash.

Cool. Think I'll carry on saving for a dropper now instead of looking at other bikes.
One more question, what sort of riding was this bike aimed at?
I do abit of trail riding but mostly xc0 -

It is what would have been at the time a trail bike, they are a bit 'bigger' now than then, so it is as CD says between an XC FSer and a trail bike.
Have you read the contemporary review on here? http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/bikes/mountain-bikes/product/review-marin-rift-zone-9014/ even though it's now older 4.5 stars is hardly bad, 12.9Kg with that spec is only a little higher than par, maybe 300-400g is all.
