Commuting from Wimbledon to Leatherhead

Hello Guys
New member here. I am currently thinking of taking up the cycle to work scheme for commuting purposes. I live in Wimbledon and work in Leatherhead. The commute distance is 12 miles, and according to google the A24 should be the quickest way to get me to where I need to be. I am not too bothered about the mileage as I am relatively fit, but I started this topic to see if anybody on here had any experience of the the A24 on that particular route. I am worried that the traffic will effectively turn what is a good idea into a nightmare.
I have used the search function but the results didnt really discuss the A24 going out of London.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated
Thanks
M

Busy normal (i.e not dual carriageway) road mostly. Not nice but probably not as dangerous as riding in cetnral London. There is a back route through Raynes Park to cut a lot of it out. Possibly some parallel quieter roads towards Leatherhead too.
Try it now when the roads are quieter and see what you think.0 -
Ok thanks! Unfortunately I am sans bike at the minute. What's the back way from raynes park?0

Depends where in Wimbledon you need to get to. I use something like this to get to the common:

Use google maps and drag the route around to see different options.0 -
I used to do this commute nearly every day. The quickest way is to follow the A24, pretty safe in general.0
