Hi Guys, I need to plot route from Herts to Frinton-on-sea and would like to know the best way to go about doing this. I have planned routes around the villages where i live so that makes it easy. I have used the Garmin Connect and although the route appears to be fairly straight forward I have my doubts. Is using Google Maps and then choosing Cycle route and good option and then importing to Garmin?
I will be using a Garmin 510.

    I use Strava.

    +1

Go to dashboard on the toolbar at the top
    My routes
    Create new route

And click away on the map.

It will automatically snap to the road and provide a readout of distance, elevation gain and est.moving time as you plot the course. You can click on waypoints and drag them around if you change your mind. Also show a side profile of the elevation.

If you're not too sure of what route to take, I think there is also an option for Strava to automatically calculate the most popular route between two distant points.

Ride with GPS for me. I find their tcx course provides slightly more useful information on the breadcrumb trail screen than the Garmin routes do.

I tend to use Garmin Connect. It does have a few 'issues' - won't give you total ascent and you can't save different copies of a ride without overwriting the original, but at least it makes sending to the 510 or 810 a breeze and they seem to work out well on the road.
