how much travel for my big hit?

Hey. Well it's been a good 11 years but my junior T forks have finally given up on me lol. They are the 2003 model but came standard on my 04 big hit expert with 8.1" of rear travel. The junior T's it came with are only 170mm travel but I was wondering if 160mm travel should b Ok on the front? Seems quite a step from 160 on the front to 200 on the back but surely 10mm won't make too much difference? I'm thinking something along the lines of buying my friends fox float 36 R.
I have bottomed out the 170mm on my Jnr T's a few times in the last 11 years but not that much it's forcing me to go for full on down hill forks, plus the bottoming out was due to bad landings  I have no interest in selling the bike for a more dated version. Still loving it to this day.

160mm is a bit short for a big hit and old 36's are terrible. I would look for a Rockshox Lyrik or Totem or a Marzocchi 66. Whatever you get, make sure it has adjustable compression damping and a coil spring rather than air.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Cheers. The 36 was just a thought, good job I mentioned it. A lot of the Lyriks I'm seeing are either 160mm or wrong steerer lol, same with the totems about the steerer too, not a lot in 1 1/8 . I'll just keep an eye out, it's not my only bike so that's alright.0 -
Forgot Totems never came with a 1 1/8" steerer. Lyriks were available at 170mm.
Might also be worth looking at BoXXers.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Nice fork. I didn't think they still made Domains. Heavy but absolutely bombproof fork, they last forever.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

I didn't either. Unless it's a typo apparently they are 2016 ones, but google search brings up nothing apart from links to CRC about them.

They're still listed as a current product on the Rockshox website. Only showing the dual crown model though.
It looks like the Yari is replacing the single crown Domain.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Domains should last a while anyway, I didn't know they were still making them either! It's probably CRC doing their usual naughty trick of flogging OEM parts that they really shouldn't be unless on a complete bike...0 -

Are they known for doing that? I ordered the last of the domain forks now all of a sudden they have more in. Must have quite a lot because it says "in stock" and no actual quantity.0
