Just got home after pushing my bike about 8 bloody miles. Peddle had come loose and buggered the thread up grrrrrrr

So I presume I will now need to change the chainset ?

Will I need any special tools to do this ?

Are they all a standard size or will I have to buy a specific one to fit the bike ?

What you need depends on the crankset/bottom bracket.

And what you can fit depends on the bike/BB shell.

It's a Shamarno Deore. Bit annoying really as it's not had much use since it was last changed by a workshop.

id buy the same thing again, there is little wrong with a deore chainset.

    tools you will need are:

    5mm allen key
    shimano end cap tool
pedal spanner (or allen key if your pedals have the means)

    Tools you might need:

    a soft faced hammer

tools which will help to do a proper job:

    Torque wrench

As the crankset comes with a BB might as well change that as well, as the Deore BB is pretty rubbish and will die soon enough, so add in an HTII BB tool.

If swapping from a internal to a external BB then you'll need the tools to remove the internal and the tools to fit the HTII, plus you may need to get the frame faced.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

You might have missed the picture.

Obviously at your age it's either failing eyesight, senility or both.

If you've just borked the pedal thread, you can get it repaired with a steel Helicoil insert - it'll be stronger than new and only about a tenner.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    I never thought about that.

Where can I buy something to do the job ? I've already ordered the new parts but could always send them back. Nothing wrong with the parts that's on the bike so no point throwing money at it if I can repair for a pinch of the price

Overseas and the firewall strips out most pictures, so not failing eyesight, confusingly for some sources I know there is a picture missing as it inserts the word 'image' (or a poster mentions it) but not for this source!
