If I go xt m8000 at the back, do I have to change my front chain ring as well? Is there something '11 speed' going on with the front chain ring that means I have to buy something specific, or does any chain ring work up front?
Thanks.
Thanks.

If single ring, any of the current crop of narrow/wides will work.0

Yes, single ring.
Thought so, but as this is labeled as '11 speed'...

I thought there might be something specific needed up front.
Thanks, good to know. All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Aye. That's why I am still on 9 speed ;-)0

Any modern-ish single chain ring but, you do have to run a 11 speed chain, that bit isn't balls.0

I was wondering this as I'm running what shimano call 9speed only chain rings with 10speed kit and it works fine.
Are 11speed chains a similar size to 10speed?0 -
so you could get away with 11speed chain, cassette, shifter, rear derailleur, dump the front derailleur, use current middle ring on existing cranks, and it'll all work fine? What sort of cost is the 11sp XT stuff?
Still on 3x9 - reason why I'm excluded from the cool kids in the Hardcore Hardtail threadFamily, Friends, Fantastic trails - what else is there

I wouldn't use a ramped and pinned middle ring, you'd certainly need a chain guide and it's not ideal, so either a single specific a narrow wide or a Shimano hooked single ring.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
