Looking for good advice on current cross bikes - ex triathlete looking to get more into cross riding - in process of selling off a couple of road bikes to get a really good quality cross bike ...

Some quick research tells me that focus mares, cannondale caad x , ridley, scott, giant tcx, felt, meridia are all good options new or second hand ...

thinking mechanical disc brakes for ease of self service - simply just readjust the cable versus the fuss of fluids etc with hydraulic brakes ...

Also thinking of shimano 105 or Sram Rival with a decent cassette ration on back as most cross bikes now 11 speed with 46/36 so still really useful as a winter bike on the road for road riding as well

Would prefer to get as good as possible second hand with Ultegra or force with 11 speed ...

A good second hand one will always be great value. But, what is your budget?

    Two comments on your assumptions:

    1) I would go hydraulic, I don't find it any harder to adjust and much better modulation.
    2) 11 speed more fragile and no real advantage for cross.

End of season is best for second hand bargains, but good luck looking.
