Pikes too much on a 26" Trance??

OK so I am going to need to replace my 125mm Fox float 32's in the near future as they are somewhat life expired.

Of course, everyone says go for Pikes but in 26" guise they are 160mm which I am worried might be a bit of overkill on my 2011 trance?

I am not a big hitter and don't really need more travel ;) . What I would really like is better small bump sensitivity (the floats have none) and perhaps a bit more stiffness.

So what does the panel recommend? Not looking to spend mega bucks so probably only Fox and Rockshox on the menu with an unexplainable bias towards Rockshox for some reason

I am 6'2" and 95kg (14 1/2 stone) if that is of any use.

Cheers,

Bish.

Overkill. I would go to 140mm max (which is what I did). But only if you think the exta travel would be beneficial

As above, 140mm max, Rev's for over 120, SID or REBA for upto 120 would be my call.

If you are genuinely bothered about small bump sensitivity then go and find an old pair of Revolution coil forks. Perfect for the trance as they are adjustable up to 130mm, have the small bump sensitivity that only coil forks can give, are great for us "larger" chaps as they are very stiff laterally, are dirt cheap because no-one understands how good coil forks are and, lastly, are just about the perfect length for your Trance.

Whatever you do I wouldn't be going longer than 140mm on that frame.

I used to have 2010 coil Pikes on my Trance, absolutely perfect for the bike. As above, coil forks are more sensitive than air but a bit heavier.

Thanks all. Looks like I need to go shopping for some 140mm revelations. :)

Anyone doing a better deal than this?

Also, are the 2016 forks any different / better than 2014 / 2015 forks as Winstanleys are selling quite a few XXWC versions off?

What headset standard is your Trance?

Should be tapered if it's a 2011 frame (will have a straight top tube rather than a curved one)

Forks ordered 2.30pm Monday, delivered 8.30am Tuesday!

Fitted them this evening and will be testing them out at the weekend. :)

Well I don't know how much can be attributed to the psychological effect of having new shiny bits but Wow! what a difference! No more diving under braking, cornering is confidence inspiring, even on a totally soaked ride. Brilliant!

Just got to let them bed in a bit and tune the small bump as they're a bit harsh at the moment.
