tyres disposal

apparently it is illegal to throw old tyres in the bin and the local recycling centre does not take them. In principle, we are supposed to take them back to the shop, who should dispose of them... I can see Wiggle being happy to receive loads of worn out tyres.
I can also understand the tyres fly tipping phenomenon...
Why the xxxx the recycling centre cannot deal with tyres? I get they cannot be recycled, but so most of the stuff they do take, like household waste (which does include rubber)
What am I supposed to do, other then hiding them at the bottom of the rubbish bin?

Round the back of Kwik Fit?
Just a thought. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
I could double post my reply in the rant post........
It really annoys me the attitude that the local tip has now.
I can fully understand that they have to be careful about what is dumped, that tradesmen don't take the mickey and that everything should be recycled if possible but their attitude just promotes fly tipping.
Unless you have a fancy artisan method of upcycling old tyres then I am pretty sure there is nothing you can do them.
If anyone has got any ideas then let me know, I have an old set of City Jet tyres in the back garden that need dealing with!0 -
In the absence of a better solution, I'll just fold them in the bin bag and happy days... if they don't want to be helpful or collaborative offering a viable alternative, then that's what they get...left the forum March 20230

I'd love to know where it says it's illegal, local councils are wont to make things up as they go along, I've always put bike tyres in the bin and when I took a load to the tip last year they told me to just throw them in the 'too landfill' section.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

What about old inner tubes?0 -
it's been a quandary before - surely as said - kwikfit/halfords etc who must have processes to ride themselves of old car tyres - it being the same material...

Some checks confirm that it's not 'illegal' to dump car tyres into your household rubbish, but that the council can refuse to take them, hence it's not illegal to put bike tyres in there either, if the council doesn't like that it is up to them to say so, but they have a legal obligation to take away 'household' rubbish which it could be argued bike tyres are.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

I might have met an overzealous engineer at the tip (as everyone who has to wear protection gloves seem to qualify as engineer these days)left the forum March 20230 -
Argh yes, a refuse disposal engineer.....(bin man).
Unless you can find somewhere who will take them with car tyres (for shredding) then the only place they can go is Landfill. Most tyre outlets are paying circa £3-4 pound to get rid of each carcass so I doubt they would take them for free.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

Took some mobile hoists down there the other day, took the engineers a while to grasp that anything that is designed to lift a person and a heavy person at that is not something you can lift!0 -
