I took this in Blackpool when he was riding for Z ? Peugeot . He was having a lot of trouble with his knee then. Must have edited it on a primitive photoshop There was a massive crowd and they all knew who he was
He became a bit of a mythical figure in cycling due to his sudden departure and non-sighting

I can see Joey and Tony Capper in the back of Capper's Citroen C8 Family. Joey turns to Capper and says
"You shoulda protected me Tony, you should have looked out for me. I coulda been somebudy I coulda been a contender, I could have won the TDF instead of getting a one-way ticket to Palookaville"

My childhood local sporting hero (he lived not far from us). While the other kids were drawing LFC or EFC onto their school bags, I drew the ANC-Halfords logo on mine. It was through him I started following racing. One of the great lost British talents of that era.
I heard somewhere that after retiring due to his knee problem he became a rep for Cougar or Dolan?0 -
He once threatened to flick me into a ditch for cutting him up in a road sign sprint on some north Liverpool ride about 15 years ago. No shouting and yelling, just a hand on my drop and a very measured tone at about 25mph. A gent."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Capper wasn't no Brasilford."If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0 -

And the Great Man Capper no longer with us
But hell, what a great set of stories he left behind0 -

That's how people used to learn bunch skills. Local godfathers threatening and cajoling them."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

15 years seems relatively recent ?? - I know he was doing something with horses (his wife's stable?) I thought he stopped riding completely in the early nineties.
Did you take the Delamere prime0 -

I didn't realise Capper had died. Just looked it up and it's quite recent. It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -

I think it was actually in Speke on the way back in, my wild swing across the road was what brought me to his attention. I had no idea who he was until somebody informed me later, I was only 18 at the time!"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"
