Does anyone ride one of these?
I have seen one discounted to £999 in my size and am very tempted, full 105 group apart from crank and brakes I think but can swap the blocks out.
I was looking at the ally defy 0 as these are now £800 and I like the look of them.
I know they are slightly diff geometry but I've have both race and sportive setups in the past and to be honest I cope well on either. Bike will be used for all sorts of rides, not racing though.
It's to replace a crashed cube agree gtc, carbon took a small ding in a big crash and wrote frame off so got to get something new, hence I took a peek at an ally bike instead.

There are members on this forum who have that model, have you been and sat on them both, both are nice bikes, if you say you can ride both types of geometries without problems then you need to decide whether you want carbon or aluminium.
I don't have the TCR, I went for the Defy 0 2013 model, because I wanted the endurance geometry and a bike that could take 25mm tyres and mudguards, I have not been disappointed with it as my first road bike.

Thanks for that, I had seen them. I do really like the look of the TCR, and it is supposedly 7.85kg v 8.6kg ish for the defy. The defy has better group, mix of ultegra. The tcr is the better frame and carbon is always tidier, no welds and internal cables.
I do need to decide ally or carbon, have just been put off carbon a bit by my experience of the damage but I guess it's been easy enough to cover on insurance so shouldn't be an issue really.0 -
I love mine.
It's super comfortable. More so than my Canyon.
It looks great. The frame is the best I've ridden.
It's light, and with a wheel upgrade, could be a lot lighter.
It looks great.
The brakes are unbranded 105 5700. I compared them side by side, off the bike. There is no difference, except the stamp on the back, and the paint job on the front. I was going to put my 105s from the Canyon on, but decided to stick with the stock ones. They do the job, although they do lock up easily.
The crank. Yes, it could be better, but the rest makes up for that, and it won't slow you down.
It looks great.
The saddle is a tad soft, but is getting replaced anyway. So who cares?
For a sov under a grand, it's a real bargain. I'd get another if I stacked my current one.Giant TCR Advanced II - Reviewed on my homepage

To give you an idea of how it sizes up, here is a picture of mine after getting close to dialing in my position. The seat prevents me from getting it exact, because I need a flat profile, but it's very close. It's a size ML, and I am a shade over 180cm. I can get a flat back with the current setup, but might take a spacer out, and make it more aero. In its current setup, I ride 100km and still don't have any aches by the end (except from the saddle). I could ride more than 100km, except that I find it boring. I wouldn't be worried about discomfort.
Would white bottle cages be a good idea? I might give it a go.Giant TCR Advanced II - Reviewed on my homepage

Thank you. Just the feedback I was looking for. Sounds like you love it. I think I am swaying that way, at its discounted price it's a steal. Colour scheme is a bit boring but can get over that. That's a big saddle to bar drop, helps you get aero though. I'm 6 2' so 187ish cm so according to giant a large frame, geometry of that is similar to my 60cm cube, just a slightly longer top tube.0

Pulled the trigger on the Giant in the end yesterday. £975 in the end as I used a price match service. Should be delivered by Thursday. Will be on the turbo for the first few weeks as I am still not allowed back on the bike proper. Very excited to see what it weighs compared to cube, that was 8.6kg without anything attached.
Just need to decide on bottle cage colour now, probably carbon I expect. Potential stem swap as reach is 15mm more than the cube but I had the saddle a bit back on its rails on that so may be ok.
As an aside, anyone thinking about one of these, either a 1,2or 3, I wouldn't hang around, stock is going fast. My LBS who are a giant dealer were not able to get any stock at all of any model, say giant have cleared them all out.0 -
Bit late to this post but can deffo recommend the TCR, I have the 2015 advanced Pro 2, (only cost me AU$2500 as soon as it was in the country, and had an ultegra cassette by mistake, absolute bargain!) I've put about 4000kms on it since I got it last October and its great, super responsive and stiff when you need it to be but still comfy over long rides, climbs great, solid in the corners and even the stock wheels are pretty good, was expecting the replace them straight away but actually still have them and am waiting to replace them with them semi-deep rims.
Replace the stock tyres straight away, they are terrible, I had 3 punctures in the first 3 rides! no punctures since putting on gp4000sII's
5800 105 is brilliant, solid shifts, and smooth running. With my old 5700 setup I had to give it a fettle every couple of months to keep it smooth, I've not had to touch the 5800 setup since I bought it!0 -
Arrived this morning. All set up close to what I ride, the top tube is 15mm longer than my old bike so may need a shorter stem, there is scope for this as the current one is 110mm.
I have some pro4 endurance tyres to switch into it but I would fancy some yellow sidewall tyres like the pro team use, will add a nice touch of colour, can only find 23mm ones though and I currently ride 25mm so am not sure if it will compromise comfort too much.
It's going to be turbo only for a while as I have 4 weeks recovery still.
