before i buy, 10 speed chainset+8 speed system

got a hybrid, running 8 speed groupset, and it needs a new chainset, thinking of a Shimano Tiagra 4650 Compact 10 speed chainset ( good price
) .
should be ok? running 8 speed cassette and chain with it and shifters
the interwebs says its fine, is it?

You may also need a different BB type what crank is on it atm?
If its just chainrings worn you could replace them on old crank?
The shifters will work fine, you just need to remember to set it up so that the inner ring shift is the unused shift as this only releases cable tension if you shift to it.
