Good mitts for hours on the hoods

So I used to run spez bg mitts which were good fit and pads were comfy. I got a sale pair of gores and their outside pad set is much more on the outside of the hand. Now I find that after 20+ miles i can get slight deadening on outside fingers and can see that when on hoods actually the nerve is not covered very well but the gore pads.
Any others with similar - should I just go back to bg...

I just have comfy bar tape, don't really like wearing mitts.
Might not be much use to you though! Sorry.0 -

Is the correct answer, IMHO as well! I have Lizard Skins 2.5mm tape and it's supremely comfortable with or without mitts/gloves.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

I rode 911 miles from Cannes to London about 6 weeks ago and I cant rate Castelli Free mitts highly enough:
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/castelli-free-glove/
We did 190 miles on the longest day and I had no hand problems at all (blisters/numbness/tingling). They seem to have gel/padding exactly where it is needed for very long days. One of the guys I rode with had vastly inferior gloves and has had to see a hand surgeon due to the nerve damage he did. It'll be 6 months before his hands are fully functional again!! Indeed - gloves are not the answer. You have too much weight on your hands and your position isn't good.
Numb fingers after 20 miles isn't good at all.
Sort out the position and as above, you don't need gloves (though gloves do serve other purposes with protection etc.)0 -

I have just ridden London to Paris using Prendas own mitts and I barely noticed they were there. Even though they were sodden with rain for hrs on end. Much of the time spent on the hoods. Mind you I was running 28mm tyres at 80ish on the front and that may make a difference.0

Those Rapha leather ones?
Not sure if it's a serious suggestion but, as beautiful as the Rapha ones are (I have a pair as a gift) they tend not to last very long. I'm on my second pair as the first pair finally fell apart (Rapha, of course, replaced without question). I'm not alone.
The tan lines they give on the back of your hand are unique though...ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
I rather like these Etxeondo ones:

I also get on with very well with the Altura Pro gel mitts, managed to grab a pair for £10 a while back, and surviving pretty well, although reviews on Wiggle suggest that the current version (with no velcro adjuster) might not be made as well as the velcro one I bought from a couple of years ago.
If budget is not a concern, then there will doubtless be some Assos offerings available.Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

They look interesting. How thick is that palm padding? I don't get on well with too thick a pad layer there.

Assos stuff is generally hideously overpriced - but these - http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/Assos-Summer-Gloves-S7-White-Panther-S/ASSOZMIT252?utm_campaign=Googlebase&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=Googlebase&geoip=UK&gclid=CLq9_evBhccCFSfHtAodj9MA8w are worth their weight in gold.Fat chopper. I'm the opposite. It feels wrong if I don't wear mitts - even if it's wheely hot!0 -
Just goes to show that everyone is different.
My experience in reverse order from those mentioned that I have tried.
6. Lizardskin Tape on it's own - Decent tape but not enough padding. Cinelli cork gel is better.
5. Specialised BG. Fell apart, too thick and no better at absorption.
4. Assos Summer. Long lasting but not absorbent enough.
3. Castelli Rosso. Perfectly acceptable.
2. Rapha Grand Tour. Perfect on the bike but much too expensive and fall apart.
1. Rapha Classics. Still too expensive but better than the other marques, the same padding as the Grand Tour, cheaper than the Grand Tour, and last.
As I said though, everyone is different. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -

I just had a look at mine, and it's not too thick at all, and only in the main palm area, not targeted like on the Alturas, lovely kit Etxeondo, very underrated imho.Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

I've just bought a pair of specialized Grail mitts for exactly this reason. No edge padding, just a gel in the middle of the palm. Idea is that it evens out the pressure. Or something. Anyway, 20-something miles the other day and pins and needles/numbness hadn't gone completely but was significantly better. Might be worth a go...?0

On the MTB's it does, mainly due to the grips being mildly abrasive.
On the cross much happier with out mitts.0 -
