I've got Shimano Ultegra 6800 internal gear cabling on a Planet X rt58. When the time comes to replace the cables should I go with Shimano, or are alternative manufacturers just as good quality e.g. Jagwire?
I'd strongly suggest you stick to the Polymer coated Shimano cables if you want to maintain slick shifting.
If you have a convoluted internal cable run then the polymer ones may work better, but not necessarily. I set up a bike with full external housings and TRP disc brakes; there was actually much less resistance using the SS cables supplied with the brakes than the polymer ones supplied with the shifters.
A decent stainless cable that's well lubricated works well under most circumstances.
