I read in various articles that Shimano is releasing 105 hydraulic discs in October. See: http://road.cc/content/news/147376-shimano-hydraulic-discs-trickle-down-105-level
But this seems to suggest they are already available?: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/shimano/rs685-mechanical-sti-hydraulic-shifters-with-calipers-pair-ec069037?country=GB¤cy=GBP&esvt=1096-GOUK311068&esvq=&esvadt=999999-0-34196-1&esvcrea=61235495216&esvplace=&esvd=c&esvaid=50080&gclid=CJuIv9vT-8YCFeoJwwod7HEEcg
What am I missing please? Are they already out or is it that there is something different being released in October?
P.S. I am not wishing to have a conversation abut the relative merits of discs vs rim brakes

A mech/hydro hybrid I think, mechanical lever to a hydo caliper.
I guess the new edition will be fully hydraulic.Advocate of disc brakes.0 -
The RS685 levers are non series, which means they are neither 105, nor Ultegra nor DA. There is even a di2 hydro disc version, again non seriesAnd the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made.0

But, we all know discs are better than rim brakes... And they're so powerfull you need to wear a helmet at ALL times (whilst on the bike, not doing your weekly shop) to prevent a head injury should you be sent over the bars.
They also reccomend increasing to 25.5mm tyres so you have a larger contact patch for more powar and are thinking of 710c wheel to give a bigger contact patch too.Advocate of disc brakes.0 -
The ST-RS505 is a new 105 level hydro/STI the ST-RS685 is the Ultegra level hydro/STI.

Ugly little blighters with a £424 RRP. That will almost certainly see something like £300 or less when discounted. Dunno, I think I'd rather get the Ultegra level. At least they look nice.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

^ I agree, they look very odd, the lever looks out of proportion in relation to the body.0 -

Thanks for help. I shall wait until October. Am planning to get them fitted on a custom built bike0
