Hi,

Considering cycling this route as a charity event next year and wondering if anyone has been round this and has any comment on suitability for cycling, especially the later part back down the A9 to Inverness? Any insight would be useful?

Done the Bealach Mor twice, so know the Achnasheen / Applecross / Shieldaig section relatively well.

Kind regards,
CP

The Ullapool to Durness section is fine, done all of it by car and some on bike a few years ago. Scenery is amazing.
Road surface was great when i did it. Some major gradients though in places.

Would also like to know what it is like on the back leg into Inverness. The last time i drove from Bonar Bridge to Inverness the roads were pretty busy.
  • The bit into inverness needn't be done on A9, cycle the area often and there's always quiet routes.

    Cheers for the info :D
  • could turn left at Drumrunie (north of Ullapool) and take the coast road through Inverkirkaig and Lochinver. Weather was rubbish when we did it but a lovely empty road.
