Riding in New York? - Any groups?

I'm a Brit who's recently moved to New York (Manhattan) - Wanted to know if there any fellow cyclist in the area who ride regularly or anyone has advice on a decent club etc..

Strava would be your best bet. Central park is rammed with cyclists everyday, a bit boring though after the first ride.
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.

New York Cycling Club - www.nycc.org. They have tons of organised rides - graded a-c (a is fast, b coffee stops, c very slow) + average speed (15-21 mph typically) as well as a spring training series (STS).

If they give you grief, the typically weekend ride is to Nyack or Piermont & you will see tons of cyclists starting out along Riverside Drive out to the Gw bridge. I can give you the specific route if you IM me.

I moved away several years ago - but before then I hung out for several years at the benches by tavern on the green across from sheeps meadow with a group of great cyclists - they would usually meet up around 1 pm after their ride. Not sure if they still do.

If you race the main body is CRCA. Also check out www.nyvelocity.com which covers the races.

Thanks for the great info! - I'd love a proper route.. i've been out and ridden the west side highway a few times now but its nothing like the country roads of the UK and its rammed with Citi Bikes and tourists walking slowly and not looking where they are going!

If those fail try the Rapha CC, I've ridden from their Sydney Shop before when away for work and looking for company, worked out well.

Tons of routes in the nycc ride library too. If you do nyack take river road. Light car traffic & a long steady climb. To really get out of the city you need to go to bear mountain area. And yes - west side highway path not intended for road cyclists. But Central Park closed to cars after 7 pm (and all day on weekends - but too crowded for cycling in the lower half but could do hill repeats on 110th ...)
