"The autobus is not a physical bus"
It's unlistenable. Why is the coverage so patronising? Why do their sentences go up & down like that in tone? I don't have Eurosport. Just need to vent as watching on my own.

I did like Phil's joke about the pen knife though!0

Because it's for US audiences. At least that's what I have understood in the past when they were both drinking from the LA trough.0
-
If you watch it surely you know the basics? I'm pretty sure most people watching know what is going on, what other sports have commentary like this as if you've never watched the sport before?
Itv should bin them off and do their own commentary.0 -

I've not listened to them for year but caught some of the ITV4 coverage. It is a constant stream of drivel compared to the French commentary. I thought Phil had promised to quit if LA was caught doping?BASI Nordic Ski Instructor

Ahhh yes he did, but LA confessed and therefore didn't actually get "caught".0 -

Put yourself in their place. Big money coming in and all they have to do is what sells. In any case I think you're confusing what they do and say in the commentary booth to who they are in real life.0 -
No confusion, they're past their best before date as commentators. No doubts that they know the sport, but it is time for a refresh.0
-
gave up with them last year when they kept repeating what the other one was saying all the time0

He's long since given up saying anything meaningful, if that counts?0 -

Correcting each other's mistakes through the Alps, I put it down to a surfeit of Cotes du Rhone.0 -

I know they sometimes speak just the US audience or other nations that take their feed but surely the producer can stop them repeating each other all the time. Not sure if they've done it this year I gave up with them last year0 -
A right couple of muppets!Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -

Who do you think Bob Roll, Jensie, and the other two are? If not Phil and Paul's eventual replacements.0 -

I like Matt Stephens a lot, understands racing and doesn't sound like a cliché ridden idiot. Matt and Ned, with Matt Rendell, Chris Boardman and David Millar sharing presenting and opinionated expert duties would work fine for me.0 -
Ned Boulting is a buffoon. His over-emphasis of the last syllable when pronoucing the French names of riders and places when commentating on the Dauphine this year was nauseating.0
-
Just get Eurosport - even Carlton Kirby outclassed anyone on ITV this Tour. If the OP doesn't like being treated like someone who has never watched a race before then Boulting is definitely not their man and for anyone with any predisposition to depression a Millar piece to camera could prove the final straw.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

I've been watching over in the USA on CBS and if it wasn't for Jens I'd have gone mad utter dribble comentory and endless as breaks including with 5k to go, worse still every ad break shows the same ads.
20 out of every 60 mins are ads here count yourselves lucky.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.0 -
Keep in mind that for the vast majority of the world wide viewing audience the Tour is the only race they watch each year.
Surely not, they must watch the AMGEN Tour of California, because, it is the 2nd most prestigious race of the year. That's the AMGEN Tour of California, where some rider or other was 3rd this year, in California, in the tour sponsored by AMGEN.0 -

Far be it for me to suggest what they should do but as Phil is 71, a graceful retirement would be apt and Paul, 59, could look after his gold mining interests full-time. Still using the same cliches as over 20 years ago and now tarnished with blowing bubbles up Armstrongs backside for so long, they're doing no-one any favours by persisting to commentate.0 -

I know he divides opinion, but I though CK was really good this race, with the King also on good form. It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -
What am I reading?
Kirby is a prototype app. Eurosport load it with random cycling factoids and clichés before transmission. Deep Blow had an upgrade this season with the addition of fuzzy logic to avoid any coincidental alignment between cliché and actualité.
I would commit to watching every remaining race, until warming melts the roads, with P&P if it meant I never, ever, had to hear CK call another bike race....a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0 -
I spent the tour switching between Eurosport & ITV4 to avoid adverts. Neither commentary team are good but I got sick of Kirby far quicker than the chuckle brothers. The verbal diarrhoea that comes out of that mans mouth at times is quite unbelievable.0

Any word yet on who'll have the Vuelta? It would be nice to have Rob Hatch back on.0

Phil and Paul are so bad that if you start listing their problems you'd never stop, but somehow they wind me up much less than Carlton.0

This +1
I don't like watching with the sound off - but CK just grates terribly. P&P are complete numpties (or have become so recently) but I can tune them out and not get wound up.
I like Millar and Boulting as a double act. Millar's insight was spooky at times0 -

Bravo! It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0
