Cannock Chase trails. Advice or Guide?
Hi, I'm driving up from Devon for an overnight and would like to try the trails on Cannock Chase.
I'll be driving up on a Mon morning, ride afternoon, overnight at friends at Cannock Wood, ride Tues am, then drive back Tues pm.(or poss Tues/Wed). This will be 2nd half of August.
As i will not have much time. i don't want to get lost - are the trails easy to find and to follow, or would anyone like to 'be my guide'?
I have room in my vehicle for another bike if that helps. Cheers!

If you start out at Birches Valley car park the trails are very well marked out all the way round. Follow the dog is a little tame on its own but if you do The Monkey as well it is a bit more technically challenging. Be aware sometimes the smooth pebbles are like riding on ice in the wet so watch out Enjoy it - its nice little trail centre.Framebuilder

Don't bother, Cannock is pretty dull.
It depends what you are used to riding and what you have locally. I have sherwood pines and Cannock & I would choose Cannock over pines any day of the week. You also have stile cop DH near by aswell which is worth a look.
The birches valley cafe do a fantastic panini aswell!0 -

That's true. Sherwood Pines is a whole different level of boring. Stile Cop is hardly DH, I have ridden more technical stuff on red xc trails.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
I certainly wouldn't travel to just ride Cannock on the whole.. I found it rather dull for the most part..
Its good for the area it has, but its essentially a pretty flat dull area.0 -
Thanks for all the replies.
It was wet and slippery but i did the dog and also the longer 'blue' trail. Will try the monkey and DH next time in Midlands. Enjoyed some different features (obstacles) and saw more of Cannock Chase in that short time than i did when i lived near it for 16 years!"I"m over the hill so I"m not over the hill" !0
