Looking for buying advice

New or used beginners bike
For downhill/trail use - hardtail
Price range is around £300 (if poss) as I wont be using the bike as much as I would like, anything lower than £300 would be great - but obviously it has to be worthwhile/in fairly good nick

What do you mean by downhill? Just trails which go down a hill or downhill trails with big jumps, drops and rock?

Both standard trails, and then downhill with jumps and drops - not massive jumps and no rock

Either way you're unlikely to get anything worthwhile new.

The Calibre is the best you're going to get new. Forget about jumps and drops for a while.
