Shimano 105 Chain - is it too long?

Hi,
I thought it would be fairly straight forward to get a replacement chain for my 10-speed 105 5700 set up but they do not appear to be readily available and out of stock on a few websites.
Would an Ultegra 6701 chain be compatible?

Yes, it will work perfectly fine0

It would but I prefer the 10 speed KMC chains, they seem to take more of a beating and handily come with a KMC quicklink instead of messing with a pin.0

Can you tell me what are the real benefits of having a quick link? I have never had to remove my chain and clean my bike after every ride. I can only think that if my chain was to break then that is when it would come in handy but I can't think of how I would get to fix the chain if that was the case.0

The quick link makes it easier to remove and rejoin your chain, which is useful for thoroughly cleaning the chain or bike, e.g. jockey wheels etc. You carry a spare (and a chain tool) in case your chain snaps: you remove the broken links and join the chain with the quick link. Decathlon sell a packet of 2 x 10 speed for £3.99 which is cheaper than most other places. Shimano joining pins are only for a single use. Contrary to popular misconception, Shimano chains are the better than the alternatives so a Shimano chain + KMC quick link is a good combination.0

Well take my example last night. I wanted to check the rear mech hanger alignment using my shiny new tool. It was relatively simple to pop open the quick link and whip the chain off before removing the rear mech. Not strictly necessary I know, but it made things easier.
It's also nice to be able to take it off for a proper clean without getting crap over the rest of the bike
I've only broken a chain once in 50 years of cycling, and that was only half a mile from the house so I hobbled home while counting my testicles. But should it ever happen again when I'm miles from home I'll have a chain tool and spare quick link to get me back on the road.0 -

That's what I use; 105 chain with a KMC link0
