Has anyone tried the new 11 speed XT transmission yet?
At £210 to upgrade from 10 to 11 I'm quite tempted to go for it.

I've ordered it all including the cranks but still waiting, CRC aren't giving a date for availability yet but others are saying this month or next0 -
I thought it was available to the public from August sometime.
So, no. Not tried but tempted.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -
I will order it when it's in stock. Waited long enough for it, messing around with range extenders for so long now. Can't wait.0
-
I was going to buy a 40 or 42t range extender and new cassette but for not too much more I can get the XT kit including Shifer and mech so I'm going for it too. I can't wait either.
For the money I'd say it's a no brainier!
I saw 27th July mentioned somewhere but can't remember where. The 11-42 cassette was August though.
So to answer your question, no, I've not tried it yet but I will do soon enough.0 -
Not as yet but have swapped it in instead of X1 for a build for hopefully will have some feedback in the next couple of weeks.
Going slightly off topic I had some time with an AbsoluteBlack oval chainring today and found it pretty good to ride with and not all strange to pedal right from the start. There felt like less pedal effort was required for the same amount of output and for those that like to push their gears rather than spin there is definitely some benefit to be had.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -

I have done a fair bit of distance on mine now and find it to be little different to the 30t round one that came off - it feels like it gives more oomph if you are standing up to power up something or sprinting but feels little different to me on loose extended climbs. Not noticed more traction particularly or more power. Feels a little bigger than a 30t maybe a 31t?!Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -

No, but having split a chain yesterday on my current 2x9 set up on the Bandit I am very tempted to just bin the old stuff and go straight to it.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

I just ordered mine today, 11-42t cassette, mech, shifter, chain through work. All in stock at Madison so turn around from any LBS should be reasonable. I guess ze Germans and CRC are getting a taste of their own medicine at this point.0

No, not cheaper, but at least it's a) readily available in the UK b) comes with a full UK warranty and c) supports my LBS rather some money hoarding big business brand.0 -
Has anyone got weights for the new 11 speed Shimano?0

I'm interested in this for the 2x chain set and as I want to know whether 10speed chains will work on it.
there's the hope cassette coming out later this year too if people still want to keep existing 10speed kit, that's if its not too pricey.0 -

I'd expect the hope kit to be expensive, reading about their new cassette it requires a new freehub which will be available for their pro evo 2 hubs. So as a minimum that's a new freehub and cassette and that's if you already use their hubs.0 -

I think I'm going to keep my 2x9 lol0 -

3x9 is even better. All the gears you'll ever want.0

2x9 is the ultimate. Plenty gears plus a bash to feel enduro.I don't do smileys.

The new 11 speed XT set up will be barely lighter than my 2x9 - and I'll have more gears, a harder wearing system and a good front chain retention system - a front mech. So for now I'm sticking.0
-
I wouldn't ever go back to having a front mech. Single ring is so much quieter, leaves a tidier handlebar set up and just works better. I never feel the need for anything smaller than 32t-40t ratio.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

But not everyone is a super hero gnarly riding god like you.
1x9 works OK on my AM bike, but granny helps for tight XC type switchback climbs etc. Especially with puny legs twice your age.I don't do smileys.

What does super gnarly riding have to do with choice of gearing.
Twice my age? You're 72? I always imagined you were much older than that.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

I don't think chains run over narrow wide rings as smoothly as normal rings to be honest. I'm currently using one on the zaskar, but for flatter rides. Now I have sold the idrive and going back into the steeper stuff the double is going back on. I do like a winch a gear!0

Factory Shimano doesn't work NW though does it for their single ring setups does it?0
