Veloce front mech bending problem?

The veloce front mech on my wifes bike looks deformed. The outer side of the cage looks like its sloping outwards where it attaches to the rest of the mech. Is this normal or do they bend with use? The cage doesn't look very sturdy compared to Chorus.

    If the mech is poorly fitted or clamp screw not tight enough it can catch on the inside of the big chainring result in it being bent. Might need 'teasing' back into shape.
    Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    No wasnt touching the the chain ring. If anything, too far away.
