Assuming I've understood correctly if it's a route you've created (but not ridden) in Strava you'd have to "Export" the file (I do it as a gpx) from Strava then "Upload" into Garmin Connect. Then you can "Save as Course". Only trouble then is that the route shows up as an activity in your GC feed without you having ridden it so I delete that. Annoyingly if you've linked the two it then syncs back to Strava and sometimes means you erroneously pick up credit for various things if you've entered a challenge. Can "disconnect" between Strava/GC temporarily if that bothers you I guess...
I find I have to re-save the gpx before GC will accept it as an upload too.
If anyone has a better approach I'd like to hear it too, to be honest, cos I've always felt the above was a right faff. I prefer not to plug my Garmin (810) in until absolutely necessary for charging so I tend to transfer courses to the device using Bluetooth on the GC iPhone app! What a palaver! :-)0 -
Good luckI'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0

Alternatively just re-plan the route in Garmin Connect0

GC is without doubt the worst route panning software going.
For a start, it cannot differentiate between the muddy track down the side of a field and a main road. It will happily let offer both as options when planning a route.Boardman Elite SLR 9.2S

Do you need garmin connect? Or are you just loading it onto a garmin unit?Advocate of disc brakes.0

I couldn't agree more. GC is useless. This weekend, despite plotting a route with the "stay on roads" checked i had the pleasure of being:
sent through a housing estate on paths
sent through a hospital grounds
sent down multiple unpaved forest tracks
even sent over a couple of styles on a woodland walk!
So to test my theory, i plotted those same sections on Strava routes, and that managed to avoid all of those issues and actually stuck to the roads - though now need
to be honest, whilst the garmin is great for recording rides/ stats etc. for a navigation perspective, it reaffirms why i sold my car Garmin and replaced it with a TomTom!Parlee Altum - "summer"

The only thing i dont like about creating routes on strava is i cannot set the pace of the virtual partner...... or can you??????0
