Teklehaimanot position...

I'm way behind with the coverage of TDF at the moment, I've only just got round to watching the highlights of stage 6, where Teklehaimanot took the polka dot Jersey.
Now, is it just me, or does he look as if he is not sat centrally on his bike? As if he is always hanging a cheek off the saddle sort of thing!
I've done a quick search and got a lot of results but none mentioning this. I thought his bibs were a big skewiff at first because the logo looked off centre, but the more I look the odder it appears. Just wondered if anyone else had noticed and knew the reason? Either way, seems to work ok for him!

One leg longer than the other is what I've heard. No idea if it's true.

Anyone else think that the Teklehaimanot position sounds like the pose you have to strike before they ram the endoscope home?

I do recall a conversation that suggested he has one leg longer than the other - there was some debate around whether fitting different size cranks would make it easier for him.

Other riders have tended to have their shoes adjusted. Pretty sure Sean Yates had a similar issue caused by a back problem.

Having had "symmetry issues" myself on the bike for the last 15 years, it tends to be one of the first things I notice with the pro's. Sagan looks to be becoming increasingly skewed. He needs to watch out: it can be a nightmare trying to ascertain where the issue emanates from. Inflexibility in the hips, lower back or hamstrings? leg length discrepancy (functional or structural - the former quite common; the latter less so), feet issues (fallen arches, bunions) - and then there's all the issues around bike fit... It's a mine field, I tells ya!

Bike Fit I hear you say....mods, can you please move this to the 'Training, Fitness and Health' forum? There is no shortage of bike fit advice in there and someone better qualified will be able direct him to the right bike fit specialist :D

I noticed how skewed Sagan looks whilst watching the stage today as well. His toes point in to the frame quite a bit now.

Yes, he looks shocking and this is a fit by Dr. Andy Pruitt, the Specialized BG fit guru /creator. Sagan is classic short legs long trunk and needs custom geo in my opinion, but his turning left ankle is now akin to Lance and I am sure it was not there before when he was new on the scene or on a Cannondale.

Riis claimed earlier this year that he had back problems due to poor position at Cannondale.

Unfortunately, I can't take anyone serious with a link to a bike like that: on the other hand, your compatriot Steve Hogg (advice giver in the Cyclingnews fitness pages) is about the most knowledgeable individual I've ever encountered when it comes to the physics and biomechanics of a human attempting to pedal a bicycle.

Anyway - back to the pro's; Chris Horner is another wonky dude - and not just because a lot of folk think that's because he takes a lot of wonk...

Teklehaimanot gets 6 points on the flat stages at the beginning of the Tour... Everyone gets excited thinking he's some climbing legend. ( I think he may have got the Polka Dot Jersey with just 4 points ).

To put it into perspective Chris Froome now has 61 points, Joachim Rodrigues 52 points, Teklehaimanot still has 6 points and is now 29th place in the Climber Classification.

No - I thing everyone was dead chuffed that a black African was wearing one of the jerseys in the tour de france (even tho the TV guys were desperately afraid of saying that). And he did win the overall polka dot in the Dauphine Libere which I think he wore from start to finish.

The point I'm getting at... When he did have the Jersey was it really contested. He didn't have it over the Pyrenees, I bet he doesn't have it over the Alps. I'm not making anything up.

What is your point exactly? Did anyone think he was a "climbing legend"?? I don't think they did... this is his first Tour! He went for the jersey at the Dauphine too (and won it by some distance), and obviously decided he'd follow up on that by trying to get the "easy" KOM points in the first week or so and enjoy a bit of time wearing it in the Tour too. It's not an unusual thing to see some relatively unlikely rider wearing polka dots until the high mountain stages start.

There's very little way of competing with a HC MTF in the KOM, it's worth 50 points in itself. That's more than were on offer for every single climb up until the first of them, on stage 10. Think we'd have seen him in the break otherwise.
