Hi, Girlfriends birthday coming up very shortly & I'm thinking of purchasing her a 'Pendleton Briary' hybrid bike.
They going for £300 in Halfords

Would like to know if that is a sound purchase for the cost & also if the bike is light as far as these hybrids go, it needs to be light as she complains when bikes are not basically  .
Are there better options out there for me to consider at this price point or lower?
One more thing is that she is 5ft,5 what size Frame would I need?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you only have £300 to spend, you ain't going to get a particularly light bike I'm afraid. The one you link to could be made a bit lighter by swapping out the stock saddle and tyres...

Ok, so that bike seems quite heavy in that category of hybrids? I initially looked at it through a reccomendation, but I would consider others. so are there any suggestions on an alternate bike in your opinion at a slightly higher price range?

Don't get me wrong, I think that's respectable at that price point. You'd have to be spending a lot more to get a carbon frame and fork / lighter wheels / groupset / finishing kit.

My other half got the last medium, can you ask the other half to be a little shorter as she may be marginally too tall.
It's above budget and single speed but it's a lovely bike at a big reduction.

If you want light and cheap, single speed is a good place to look.

I am not sure on the spec but I definitely prefer the look of the boardman. £40 quid off online just now with 'spend and save'.

I am thinking of getting my wife and daughter new 'hybrid' bikes, interested to see other suggestions for around this pricepoint.

If you have to stick to £300 max then this would be my choice: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-500-flat-bar-road-bike-black-id_8322664.html

Its not a looker, if that is important, but it will be the lightest and best specced for the money.

I would agree with the boardman if you can afford it and/or want halfords for convenience - again great value for money and a great bike.

Pinnacle Neon will be a fair bit lighter than the Triban even if slightly over budget (doesn't that always work out better with bikes anyway), but am sure your girlfriends worth it ;-)
They may do a deal on the bike if you ask nicely anyway.

The entry Neon has a single front chainring so its nice and easy to use and maintain.
