The Daily Mail and their hatrid of cycling.

I don't ever look at the Daily Mail website as I find it a quite poor standard of journalism. All tabloid sensationalism for the lowest common denominator and no fact or thought provoking articles.
However, after yesterday's accident on stage 3 of the TDF I knew the sick f'ing b*****ds would be writing they're glad cyclists got injured. They don't have the mentality to realise these are ordinary people (but at the pinnacle of fitness) who got seriously injured, a father, a husband and someone's son. Cycling, especially for the domestiques was their livelihood and paid their bills.
What is it with the Daily Mail's poor attitude to cyclists? Are they just trying to stir up hatrid amongst different groups of the population.
If you Google "Daily Mail cycling" you'll see what I mean just from the first page of results.

what did they say, I just checked their website and it seems like they were quite sympathetic to what happened?
the comments weren't but no more than any other website when cycling is mentioned?

I agree with you, Chris. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the article by Matt Lawton, a sports journalist of the year, was factual, accurate and sympathetic. The pictures were very dramatic in showing the horrible injuries suffered by some riders and the captions were a bit over the top with words such as "carnage" but that's the tabloid style. It was obviously the graphic pix of the aftermath of the crash which "promoted" the article from sport to the general news section.
There were a few stupid comments from typical unreconstructed Mail readers underneath the report but plenty of other comments putting them right and saying how tough racing cyclists are. For me, it was a welcome change from the Mail's usual mean-minded attacks on cyclists, the BBC, Muslims etc0 -

There must be two TDF crash stories on the Mail website then - cos the one I read seemed reasonably sympathetic, as already pointed out. A few of the usual neanderthals in the comments box, but that's to be expected.0
