How to benefit from aero helmet

One of my friends sold me his unused Bell Meteor 2 helmet for £45 as he hadn't had time to wear it as he has multiple helmets.
Can anyone advise me how to get the maximum gains from it whilst riding my road bike, for example I heard it's best to make sure the length of the tail touches your back? Anyone have anything else to add?

Yes. Use it in Time Trials by putting it on your head or sell it.

Make sure the pointy bit goes backwards.

Head down nice and low, tail touching back. Prepare to be laughed at if you're not actually doing a time trial. And you might find it more comfortable to cut your ears off. With a rusty spoon.
