Right
Just watching the Tour and its got me motivated to go out on my bicycle.
When the Tour isn't on, what gets you motivated - songs, videos, etc: I'm talking its cold, wet, you're a bit tired - you know you have to go out but you just can't be bothered.
On the bike, running, down the gym or just life in general - whatever.
Any background stories may make this a tad more interesting as well.
Throw them on here and we may be able to get a list going.

Getting to work.
Crushing the hopes and dreams of wheel suckers.
Working on tan lines.0 -
1 - Get to work, I sold my car.
2- To stop becoming fat (again) - when I started riding again I was 17st, now 13st.
3 - Although I ride mostly alone I enjoy group rides and the social side of cycling.
4 - After spending so much money on bikes and gear I kind of feel guilty not riding.0 -
In bad weather or when you're just not in the mood I don't think it's really about motivation so much as habit. Once you get out there it's never as bad as it looks from the couch and I'm always glad I went but will-power/motivation are weak. It's habit that overcomes laziness more often than not. Habit is going for a ride because that's what you do on a Sunday morning (for example) as opposed to planning/considering going for a ride but leaving that little possibility that you might not. It's that tiny doubt that your laziness works on until it destroys your resolve. It's like a crack that can be prized open. When I've been training consistently I find it fairly easy to continue, but once it becomes interrupted and inconsistent there's a decision to be made about going out and that leaves open the possibility of taking the lazy option....0

See bad weather as a challenge and it also helps maintain your fitness.0

I don't do anything specific to motivate myself but instead I just randomly get the feeling that I have to go out riding it's kind of like an addiction the feeling of just me, the bike and any moron who splashes me when they drive past.
One thing that motivates me is driving one of the route that I cycle as I use the same route for commuting so it just makes me feel guilty0 -
Commuting without posting in the commuting forum motivates me0

It's an enabler.
I can eat more cake without consequence.“Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to cycle and he will realize fishing is stupid and boring”

When I am out on my bike I am unable to read some of the guff on here.0

1. Getting to work- any other way is a right faff atm.
2. To win the club's weekly TT series (not something I'm used to!!)
3. Do damage in races- hopefully get into 3rd cat so I can do more real road racing.
4. See how far I can get with the hill climbs this year- I want to ride the nationals at least once.
In the depths of winter I can find it a real slog, but luckily in the summer there are evening training rides, Thursday night TTs and hoping to do some crit races on the weekends I'm not busy with other things. Only managed one so far this summer as my weekends are rather full with other commitments this year.0 -
I tore a ligament in my knee 2 weeks ago so cant ride. quite annoyed and been eating shite in my depressed state. still off to see a knee specialist finally today so see what he says....
there goes me taking the bike on holiday this year
the motivation is there, but pain is stopping me...My winter bike is exactly the same as my summer bike,,, but dirty...0 -
Well seen the knee specialist this evening and good news kind of..
He thinks i have not torn any ligaments. Instead he thinks i have an abnormal knee joint allowing my femur to twist as it bends, either the meniscus is moving forwards and the joint is locking, or its twisting and locking...
Downside is that it not a 'normal' injury and will possibly need surgery.
Upside is he said i should be ok to cycle, but leave the mountain bike in the garage.
Hopefully ill have an mri within the next 7-8 weeks...
I also got him to look at my hip as that is tight and im wondering if that has anything to do with my knee problems, so once the knee is sorted he said they will look at that.
So as soon as it stop hurting ill test the water and get back on the bikeMy winter bike is exactly the same as my summer bike,,, but dirty...0
