New wheels and really tight tyres?

I just got myself some new wheels, Pro Lite Revo disc, and my tyres, Maxxis Detonator 28's, are stupidly tight to get on. I don't just mean normal tight as I've had before. These are tyre lever breaking tight and I've gone through a couple of inner tubes now after nipping them when squeezing the tyres on. If I ever get a flat on the road I'm buggered and would probably have to walk home!
Is this normal for modern rims or should I be worried? They are tubeless ready and I've read they can be a pain but these seem stupid!

Some rim/tyre combos just don't work - looks like you've found one. A different brand of tyre may fit without issue..0

Yup, Campag/Michelins are tight as fook too.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0

Unfortunately I can't really afford to try loads of new tyres. Are there any that are generally a bit loose? I'm going to get one of those var tools too to see if that helps.0

If you pop into your LBS they may let you try several brands from their stock.0

That's not a bad idea. I'll give it a go when I change them.
I've read that some people change the rim tape to a thinner one which helps. Any advice on that and on what one could work?0 -
Or you can pick up one of the A framed tire jack: I bought this but not tried it out yet.

I looked at those but they're too big to take out with you. I'm going to invest in the VAR tool as it's a bit smaller.0 -
I've seen that before. But this set of wheels is a different kettle of fish from anything I've had for 25 years! The front especially has about 6 - 7 inches of tyre that just won't go on. Maybe it's just my tyres and these wheels but if I got a flat out and about I'm fecked!0 -
So a quick update. I got myself a Schwalbe Durano after reading that Schwalbe are generally easier to get on (which I have experienced on mtb tyres, not tubeless though). It did seem a touch easier but not much. I used the technique in the video and did manage to get it on with no tools! Thumbs were hurting after but at least it gives me confidence to fix a flat on the road.0

Update on the update!
The fecking tyre is flat so I must have still nicked the tube! This is getting silly now and is gonna cost me a fortune in tubes (and the swear box!)0
