My workmate's looking to get a new bike, will be used mainly on road and fire roads with the odd offroad excursion, can anyone recommend something suitable please?
Cyclescheme can be used in Evans, Edinburgh Cycles, Go Outdoors, Edinburgh Cycles, Start Cycles, etc, apologies for the slightly vague options...

Perhaps narrow it down a bit.

How off road is he planning on going? If its mainly road and light tracks Id be more inclined to go for a DualSport Hybrid rather than an MTB. Something like a Specialized Crosstrail, Trek DS, Boardman MX Comp.0

Decathlon as always, is worth a look.

Shame they don't do Cyclescheme though...
He's off to Evans tomorrow and after a quick look online he's narrowed it down to a couple of options for starters :-

I personally prefer the Pinnacle as I'm a Shimano fan but he likes the colour of the Specialized, lol!
As for usage, his last bike did 50 miles on fire roads in 2 years and this one will probably do the same, good intentions and all that...0 -
Decathlon most definitely do cyclescheme, its where I got mine from...0

Really, I can't see it anywhere on their site and the nearest store is over 100 miles away?
Edit - just looked on the Cyclescheme website and they are on there, but he wants to go in and pick up a bike somewhere close to Newcastle Upon Tyne so Decathlon are out of contention anyway.0 -

The Pinnacle is in a different league to the Specialized. There's no contest there.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
If after a racy XC bike, take a look at this:

The listed weight is wrong though.0 -
I'm just about to get another 1k HT...saw this thread and that Lurcher looks exactly what I am after. Coming from a 2009 Boardman Pro HT which I sold a while back, company I'm with uses cyclescheme rather than Halfords - had it been Halfrauds I would have gotten another Pro but been struggling to decide what to get instead.
Supersonic - Nailed it!
Although I read somewhere that On One charge approx a 10% admin fee (seems most do to cover the costs) but something for OP to consider if money is tight etc.2009 - Boardman Pro '09 HT MTB

Have a look and see if Bird Cycle Works are listed on the suppliers.
If so then the Bird Zero 3._______________

Funnily enough this was my first choice. Specced it up then found that for the base model at £995 they're awaiting parts (Forks/wheels) so only way to get it was to add approx £300 with the upgraded fork and wheelset.
