11-36t 9 speed cassette

I'm currently riding a 2008 Spec Pitch Pro with XTR 9 speed set up with a single ring (33t) on the front and an 11-34t cassette and I'd like to get a wider range of ratios if possible. I've run several 11-36t cassettes on 10 speed bikes, but no such option seems available for 9 speed, however the are (cheap and nasty) 12-36 options available, so my question is this; Aside from the bigger jump between 8th and 9th, what's to stop me fitting a new 12-36 block, but replacing the smallest sprocket with my 11t?
Alternatively, if I've been lazy in my searching, please let me know if 11-36t 9 speed blocks are available off the shelf,
Ta in advance, safe trails

The only 11 - 36 9 speed I could find is the Deore.
It's heavy though.

Except that is 10 speed. 9 speed only comes in around Alivio level, so even heavier maybe.I don't do smileys.

It's gods way of telling you that if you can't pedal up a hill XTR isn't going to help you0

Pedalling uphill I have no issue with, but if I could get hold of a wider cassette then I could run a slightly larger single ring without compromising at either end. It seems the Alivio's are the only option, but I don't think they're as much heavier than the HG80 cassette I currently run than you'd expect, so it may be a perfectly viable option, especially since the rivets on the current block seem to be coming loose...Current fleet

Personally I'd use SRAM for this, as they are easy to take apart, get an 11-36 10 speed and and a 9 speed (could use almost any!) and mix and match the ratios using the 9 speed spacers (the sprockets are the same thickness) to create a decent and relatively light 11-36 9 speed with sensible ratios.
Other option is to use a decentish 9 speed cassette with the 36 from any cassette (if you only use one you could get away with a 10 speed spacer or 9 speed) and have the nasty jump from 8th to 9th gear as you mention.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

Hands up, my mistake CD. I bought a Deore 9 speed last year. It must have been the 12 - 36.
My son ran it with a 37t front ring. This replaced a 11 - 34. Son said he did not notice the lack of 11 over 12.0 -
He wouldn't with a 37t frint, that's pretty large for a single ring!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
