Hi all
I have a Trek x-caliber 8 2014 with a SR Suntour XCR-RL w/coil spring, preload, remote lockout, custom G2 Geometry w/51mm offset, 100mm travel fork I am looking to upgrade to a Rockshox XC 32 TK Solo Air 29er 100mm Fork. I am 15 stones and 6ft2. Is the Rockshox a better fork there is so many different opinion between coil and air forks am I doing the right thing?
Any comments welcome, Thanks
Alex

First thing is to check the impact on the geometry of the change of fork from the Trek G2 geometry to "standard".

G2 offset is 51mm, Rockshox standard offset is 46mm (from memory).

Yes you are right I thought that since that fork is for 29er it will be 51mm offset am I wrong in my thinking?

Might be better if you can get hold of an XC32 from a Trek dealer as they come as standard on the Xcaliber 9. They could possibly source one? To be honest I wouldn't spend the money on one.

I wouldn't bother upgrading to the XC32. It's not much better than your Suntour fork.
I know someone who has fitted a standard 46mm offset fork to an X Calibre and says he couldn't tell the difference.
Save a bit more cash and get yourself a Reba or Revelation with much better damping and less weight.

I would say the XC32 is a significant upgrade, 32mm stanchions instead of 28mm making it much stiffer, and a proper damper and not a cartridge.

Still not a very good damper though.

Everything is relative, but yes, better is available.

This is one of the better xcrs, might even be the new 32mm version based on the old Raidon. If upgrading I'd be looking at a Reba.
