Hello all,

Going to mallorca with the family for a week in september, unfortunately cant take my bike so looking to hire,

Prob only ride for a day maybe two so i guess this make best sense anyway,

Can anyone recommend a good hire place nearish cala d'Or that can offer decent bikes?

Also would be interested in a group ride/tour if anyone has experience of anyone offering this?

Canyon have a hire place near Cala D'Or but they cant offer tours unless you are staying at the resort in which they are located

if anyone has a route they want to share also they would be much appreciated! ~60miles?

Thanks!

    Hi

Have a look at this link http://www.moto-sprint.org/#!bikes/c1tti
Looks like they do Pinarello's for hire. Also looks like there is some advice on routes.
    Might be worth a try?

    Yes!

This one! I hired from them in May, the bikes are awesome I would not hesitate in going back. However they do operate a "you damage it, you pay for it" policy so you have to be careful!

There is a road of main roadage from Cala d'Or so it's not the best riding on the island, personally I did a couple of shortish 20 mile loops from Cala d'Or up to Sant Salvador monastery, Sananyi and Castel de Santeuri the other rides I put the bike in the car and started from Port de Pollenca and from Sa Calobra.

One tip, take a GPS system and plot your routes before especially if you're taking minor roads, very easy to get lost, especially if you're riding into Felanitx as once you're in you never get out ;)

    As above.

I hired from the Canyon guys and it was great experience. High spec bikes and a good service. I used it as a way to test ride a Canyon before purchase and loved the bike so much i ordered as soon as i got home.

I did plan a couple of routes before i went but found the best day was riding north to the tip of the island and then coming back through some minor inland roads. It got a bit bumpy at times but was great fun.

Make sure you ride up to San Salvador. A great climb and you also arent too far from la Randa - both are doable in a day - https://www.strava.com/activities/144604179
    Cannondale Caad8
    Canyon Aeroad 8.0

I used this guy in May -

I'd say you'll get a decent bike but you wont be blown away.

I emailed the Moto Sprint people and got no response. I eventually rang them to see what was happened and got a Spanish/English garble and heard nothing more from them.

Fabian Sport provided me with some certainty when I was wanting to be sure I had something to ride when I got there - easy booking process and smooth service. I had a choice of a Cannondale Super Six and a Scott Something-or-Other when I got there. No complementary bottles though and I'd left mine at home on the assumption I'd get them thrown in.

Not sure on routes as I only hired for 3 days - I wanted to do the 312km circuit of the island and thought it best to give myself some flexibility. So the one day that I rode out I left town at 6am and wasn't back until the small hours!
  • Slight delayed highjack on the thread, but in a similar position to the OP - off to Cala d'or in April for first holiday since the wee girl was born. Have the folks and brother (with his family) along to help with the babysitting, but will only really be able to get away with one day, or 2/3 a day.

I've been in touch with Fabian who was mentioned up there and also had a wee look at the route posted by Tjgoodhew. I'd like something of around 50ish miles, so not sure if that is too far? Also, how tough are those climbs? I've done a fair amount of hard claimbs in my time in Scotland, but some of those look really meaty! Also my mileage is down a fair bit this year due to the wee one and laziness. Excuses haha!

Not sure if you're already sorted but I was in Cala d'or last year and hired a Cervelo R3 from Velo Sport in Felanitx and thought they were really good. You're only minutes from the San Salvador monastery climb and there's good days riding between 3 monasteries from there. Top,tip if you do go there, use sat nav as its a maze that you'll never get out of!

If you've cycled in Scotland, you shouldn't have an issue as the climbs aren't particularly steep or taxing - well in that part of the island anyway, just need to stay hydrated if it warms up.

Riding out from Cala d'or isn't great as there are only a couple of roads which can get quite busy but cars are courteous and the roads in the main are well surfaced.

I'm going to be out there in April, but staying in Pollensa this time
  • Bumping this thread as I'm heading back to Cala d'Or in April. Should I go back to Canyon, or is anywhere else good, particularly anywhere in Cala d'Or centre as the Robinson Club is a fair walk? Also I've never liked Canyons no insurance policy.

This one has potential, a bit close than Canyon (not that it's that far). Suffers from the common problem of the website being in German but not English (not even Spanish!)

  • That's the place that rents out the crazy little single seater cars you see ragging around the marina https://goo.gl/maps/3bn8ceLmxG72
  • If you move your feet 7 m. from that place and cross the road to number 17, you will find the bike hire place

got back from there at the weekend. Climb up to San Salvador was amazing. Rented a bike from Canyon Base a Cannyon Areoad 2015 Model with Ultegra Di2. Amazing bike.

When I got to top of San Salvador there was a professional photographer taking pics but didn't get his card. Anyone got any ideas who this was ? Google didn't seem to turn up much

Brilliant thread. I’m off to Cala d’Or in July and looking to hire when over there.

Is it recommended to book a bike prior to leaving?

there are a few shops in town but if you know you want a bike better to reserve the size and frame you want in advance
