Sky tour team announced

It's an opinion piece and the opinions aren't particularly unreasonable. Not sure how it could be labelled as 'pathetic'.
Slight exaggeration there, unlike the piece, which builds an insignificant comment from 10 months ago into a meltdown. I mean it was nothing like his recent ridiculous campaign to undermine the UCI over motorhome privileges....a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0 -

Porte is a gamble-he may go well but he may follow his current form and disappoint.
What on earth makes you think he isn't still the best at doing that?
And what do you mean by current form? The man was leading the WT classification and dominated the early season. He was strong in the Giro until a run of bad luck led to him eventually pulling out with an injury to his knee sustained in a crash*. He has obviously recovered from that injury.
*And it was very interesting where that injury really started to show, yes he was bobbins in the TT but it really got him on the Passo Daone which has some incredibly nasty gradient in places and on the TV footage it was clear the man could not climb out of the saddle with any force which you absolutely need to do going up there.Correlation is not causation.0 -
I think it is mad to have written Porte off. A bad set of circumstances in the giro, but he was riding well on the back of a strong 2015 overall. No-one seems to be mentioning konig either. He looks in great form and should be a big help when the slopes get tough0

Don't think anyone can know for sure which Porte will turn up.
I think he will decent but to still have at least one stage where you would expect him to be with Froome at the end and he isn't there.
I think the team is pretty well suited to the parcours overall. Rowe deserves a shot as he has grafted so hard this year.0 -

I'm pretty sure it will be the one who, until he got injured in the Giro was the best stage race rider of the season."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I guess we're still branding Porte as "always has one bad day", based on... well, nothing very much at all? Is there a GC rider of any stature who has never had a bad day in a GT?
Even if Porte isn't 100%, Poels was filling exactly the same role incredibly well for Froome at the Dauphine so it's not like they don't have options.0 -
My prediction for Sky's tactics, assuming nothing goes wrong for Froome, is a sort of squad rotation system. That is to say that the roles of the riders will differ from one mountain stage to another. Sometimes Porte will be last, other times it will be Poels or Konig. It will be to keep the team as fresh as possible.
It's the next logical step in cycling tactics.Twitter: @RichN950 -

I would remind you about "our man" Benny, but that might reinforce your point0

Gutted for Philip deignan - he's there abouts in the finale
Me too. He needs to get out of Sky. It's a black hole that can swallow the career of good riders. If he went to a different team he would have a much stronger chase of getting a Tour ride.**************************************************

Hasn't his career had something of a renaissance since joining them? He rode Giro and Vuelta last year having not ridden a GT since 2011, and basically had free reign to attack in the Giro0

He had nine years at four other teams before Sky. He didn't make the Tour team for them either. Sky aren't holding back a superstar.
You are partly right. He has been unlucky in the earlier part of his career and when things were looking good for him with the Cervelo TT, Cervelo pulled out and he had to hunt for a team and was basically left on teams where he would never get a chance (Radioshack with lance, and the UHC). He was definitely coming good in Sky, but the point I am making is that even though he is a great domestique now, the sheer strength of talent in the Sky roster will mean that he will always be stuck on their B team.**************************************************

I read that Deignan crashed at the Nationals.0
