I'm hopping over to Dieppe to catch the TDF flash by and soak in some of the atmosphere, after a great experience watching in in Yorkshire last year...
Anyone else going?
I was thinking of getting to the nearest Cat 4 climb, what do you think would it be reachable on foot

Just over 5k according to Google Maps. So it is walkable, if you like a walk. Might be pushing it to get there on time if you're getting the 9am ferry. Very easy if you get the night ferry!0

Thanks that's a great help, getting the midnight ferry so plenty of time then leaving at 1800, like when it went through Yorkshire there were areas to watch it will they have that in Dieppe?Jamis Xenith Endura Sport 2012

I doubt it. They make less of a deal about the race than Yorkshire did. Although some towns often put something on to celebrate the race passing, just not big screens. Best chance is a cafe on a normal sized TV0 -
typical lol quite funny thought it would have been bigger being in FranceJamis Xenith Endura Sport 2012

Yorkshire had never had a tour start so more of a reason to make a big deal (plus it was the Grand Depart). It passes through that part of France every couple of years.0 -

Enjoy the normality of it.Ben

However one of the girls gave me directions to a cafe about half a mile away with Beer/TV in cool place.
I realised years ago that unless you are on the course then there is little TDF excitement in Fance.
That's why in 1998 with the Football World Cup in France, they moved the start to Ireland and it arrived back on Monday the day after the Final.
Then the Football was eclipsed with the "Festina Scandal". (didn't they do well)Organiser, National Championship 50 mile Time Trial 19720 -
Is it possible to just park up on the side of the road in a camper van.
