Just off to Tuscany for 2 weeks - close to Bucine, Arezzo. Have a few options for road bike hire but wondered if anyone had any experiences of riding in that approx area? I'm a bit concerned that the roads might be a bit on the rough side - it is Strade Bianche country after all.

Not around Arezzo, but I've stayed around Radda and Castellina a few times and I reckon you'll be fine. Not that many Strade Bianche any more and you'd have to know where to find them.
If you want to find them the route of l'Eroica is fully signposted.

There are odd places where you find an unsurfaced strada provinciale, but in general you have to go looking for the strade bianche. I'd avoid the SR69 along the Arno valley, if you can (it's not awful but it's not desperately interesting), and head for the hills.
