We're basically picking album fodder that never made it as a single right?
Here are 4 that immediately spring to mind - not necessarily the best.
Portishead - biscuit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiT0fBePR0Q
Massive attack - mezzanine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpD-yf_vHYA
Simion Mobile Disco - sleep deprivation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iC4lOdiV2jk
Flight Facilities - Heart attack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFaUOHe2UDY
Radiohead? too many to mention0 -
U2 - An Cat Dubh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_ZZ978phF0
Just dug out 'Boy'. Forgotten how great that album was/is. Thanks.
.........And how far and fast they disappeared up their own arses!!!0 -

haha, yeah it soon became pretty uncool to like U2.
They did, however, record some great sounds. I can think of a few who have disappeared up their own arses without contributing too much.
On the "great U2 tracks recorded before everyone had heard of them": "Tomorrow", from October. Captures the pain of loss with a rawness that's still haunting now.
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -
"Quinn The Eskimo" which was a massive hit for Manfred Mann.
Written by Bob Dylan, and very different when sung by him.
THE best ever pop song ever - discuss.Ecrasez l’infame0 -

Off topic drift, but...
"Quinn The Eskimo"? S'alright I suppose. But best ever? Hmm.
Throw in a couple of Springsteen songs, written by him but performed better / made famous by others:
Because The Night - Patti Smith
Tougher Than The Rest - Chris Ledoux
More powerful lyrics, more complex songs, better by far in my opinion.0 -
I can't think of too many Bob Dylan songs made better by other people. People rave about All Along The Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix but I don't think it's a patch on Dylan's.0

What? You on drugs?0 -
I can't think of any songs by Bob Dylan that were made good by Bob Dylan.Always be yourself, unless you can be Aaron Rodgers....Then always be Aaron Rodgers.0

His best work was undoubtedly with Florence, Dougal and Zebedee.0

we'll have to agree to disagree.
Back on topic by way of Bob Dylan
Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts0 -
David Bowie - Teenage Wildlife: A massive rail against the music industry that had written him off as a pop artist, and a pop at Gary Numan, who was apparently the new Bowie.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVAJsu8Xnwc
Cheap Trick - Surrender: Everyone knows 'I Want You To Want Me', even if they don't know who sang it, but this is just quality pop music.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sAm5UCJ9vA
The Clash - Something About England: A song that is increasingly more relevant considering some Politics these days.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5-ZKMUpNl8
The Kinks - Berkeley Mews: A song that has the lyric "Your kitchen sink was cluttered up, So I put the shutter up forlornly, I brewed another cuppa up, And tried to sneak out early in the morning" has to be good.

Could go on for days!"A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"

Instead of us listing album tracks, how about coming up with fantasy band line ups with a twist?
Such as this bunch of deadbeats.
Ronnie James Dio - Vocals
Jon Lord - Keyboards
Jack Bruce - Bass
Cozy Powell - Drums
Gary Moore - Guitar ( Considered Stevie Ray or Jimi but thought Moore more of a team player)0 -

If only there were some sort of button for people to start a NEWTOPIC, ya freeloading thread thief.0 -
